About
Zoia Turkovska is a clinical psychotherapist with over nine years of practice and a co-founder of the Association for the Prevention of Traumatic Childbirth. She practises in the United Kingdom and in Ukraine, working in Ukrainian and English.
Her work focuses on difficulties that persist: when life looks ordered from the outside while anxiety, emptiness, or the sense that something went wrong long ago remain underneath. Her main areas are psychological trauma, PTSD and complex trauma, alongside perinatal mental health — traumatic birth experience, postnatal depression and maternal exhaustion.
The approach is fitted to the person rather than the other way round: depending on what someone brings, that means Gestalt therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, schema therapy, EMDR and trauma-informed practice. The work goes beyond talking, into the body and the nervous system — where what is hard to put into words is held.
She sees clients individually and runs therapy groups for women. She is a UKCP-registered psychotherapist, works to the UKCP Code of Ethics, and is a member of GPTI and of the Complex Trauma Institute.
Within the Association she leads psychological support for women who have experienced traumatic birth, and develops educational material for perinatal mental health practitioners.
